Bulk Excavation Melbourne

Bulk excavation is the high-volume earth-moving that opens up a site — stripping, cutting to design levels, and carting or importing material at scale. It sets the program for everything that follows, so accuracy on volumes and cart-away is what keeps a build on budget.

YellowX self-performs bulk excavation across Greater Melbourne and Victoria with our own crews and plant. You get one accountable contractor, a rate we can stand behind, and a tender-ready Bill of Quantities back in 48 hours — measured off your plans, not guessed.

Bulk Excavation — FAQs

What is bulk excavation?

Bulk excavation is the removal of large volumes of earth to bring a site to design levels — as opposed to detailed excavation, which is the precise digging of footings, pits and services. Most projects need both: bulk first, then detailed.

How do you price cart-away and spoil disposal?

We classify the material with the geotech report, measure the in-situ volume off your plans, apply a bulking factor, and price disposal to the correct licensed facility. Contaminated or acid-sulfate soil is flagged and priced as a provisional item until confirmed.

Can you balance cut and fill on site?

Yes — where the material is suitable we re-use cut as engineered fill to reduce cart-away and import, which usually lowers the overall earthworks cost. We call out the assumptions in the BOQ.
